I like the idea to use the linkedin group for outreach and the 'wider
community' and reserve the w3c list for 'committers'.

as you can see there are three more join requests at the linkedIn
group (https://www.linkedin.com/manageGroupMembers?searchMembers=&gid=8142655&searchType=requests&trk=mgs).
Again I haven't received any email reminders about this and I take it
you didn't either. Please go ahead and act on the requests. maybe the
communication settings can be changed at the user level to enable
email for groups events but I haven't found the the switch to do so
yet.

As you might imagine the community aspect is quite important for me
and I think we should keep the mechanics of this group tool as open
and transparent as possible for our members. last but not least it's
an interface aspect we frequently face in the semantic web community.
In addition it might be interesting  in addition to setup and evaluate
the a group / community feature at the w3c
http://www.w3.org/community/ since we are not limited to any specific
channels. it might turn out that linkedin works best here for our
needs or not, we will see.
