Hello SKOS,

here is an answer to the call for implementations, concerning

(a) a vocabulary implementation: UMTHES, and
(b) a software implementation: iQvoc

(a) == Vocabulary Implementations ==
* vocabulary title(s)
Environmental Thesaurus (“Umweltthesaurus”, UMTHES) of the Federal
Environment Agency Germany.

* name of person and/or organisation responsible for the implementation

** Content and semantics:
Joachim Fock
Umweltbundesamt
FG I 1.5
Wörlitzer Platz 1

Germany
Phone.: +49 340 2103-2437
joachim.fock@uba.de

** Technical implementation:
Thomas Bandholtz,
innoQ Deutschland GmbH
Halskestr. 17, D-40880 Ratingen
Germany
Phone: +49 178 4049387
thomas.bandholtz@innoq.com

* scope and size of the vocabulary
Environmental terminology of the German authorities, extension of GEMET
(used to be one of the sources of GEMET).
11,500 German preferred terms
28,000 German non-preferred terms
30,000 English non-preferred terms

* what it is primarily used for
Semi-automatic indexing of public information of German environment
protection authorities.

* in what languages the vocabulary is provided
German & English with non-symmetrical multilingualism.

* a list of the SKOS constructs used
Generally everything except skos:Collection.
Mapping properties should link to GEMET, but there are no working SKOS
URIs for GEMET. F.e. http://www.eionet.eu.int/gemet/concept/7 returns a
“400 Bad Request”. This is an open issue.
SKOS-XL will be used with extensions for rich lexical properties.

* URL(s) where the published SKOS data may be obtained, if the data are
publicly available
UMTHES in SKOS will be publicly available using (->) iQvoc later in 2009.

* any other URLs describing the vocabulary or providing further information
UMTHES as a Topic Map (ISO 13250) :
http://www.semantic-network.de/doc_intro.html?lang=en
Information about UMTHES in German:
http://www.umweltbundesamt.de/service/dokufabib/thes.htm

(b) == Software Implementations ==

* name of the software
iQvoc 1.0 and upcoming 2.0

* name of person and/or organisation responsible for the implementation
Thomas Bandholtz,
innoQ Deutschland GmbH
Halskestr. 17, D-40880 Ratingen
Germany
Phone: +49 178 4049387
thomas.bandholtz@innoq.com

* URLs for software home page and/or download location if publicly
downloadable
http://apps.innoq.com/iqvoc/about.html

* can the software read SKOS data?
As far as SKOS constructs are in use by GEMET

* can the software write SKOS data?
Publish SKOS data conforming to "Cool URIs for the Semantic Web" and
"How to publish Linked Data on the Web"

* can the software check consistency of SKOS data with respect to the
SKOS data model?
As far as SKOS constructs are in use by GEMET.

* Additional Information:
Current version 1.0 is a first demo using a copy of GEMET as test data,
as downloaded from http://www.eionet.europa.eu/gemet/rdf.
iQvoc will be extended in 2009 in two directions:
1. full support of SKOS and SKOS-XL constructs + some extensions
2. rich editorial functionality
UMTHES (see above) will then be hosted by iQvoc 2.0.

Best regards,
Thomas
