Re: SVG Accessibility Task Force

Amelia,

The task force mail list is public so folks that are not work group members
can participate easier. We are still finding the best time to meet. So far
9 am Friday Eastern is winning, however most folks in the US were on
holiday and haven't yet responded.

I made a straw man of a taxonomy for graphics which is in the mail list
archives. Please take a look at it. The taxonomy is a different angle than
John's mapping of SVG elements. Mapping SVG elements is at the finest
granularity of graphics parts, whereas the taxonomy captures the conceptual
features of graphics which we want to relay to assistive technologies. A
taxonomy also provides a common vocabulary for assitive technology, so
blind users can get consistent representations of charts, maps, technical
drawings and STEM diagrams.

                       Regards, Fred

I'm not officially a member of either working group, so I'm not sure I can
officially be a member of the Task Force, but I am certainly interested in
this topic and will be following progress on it.

At the very least, I can serve as a test case for
authors-who-don't-know-much-about-ARIA-and-are-easily-confused.  (As
evidenced by the discussion over role=presentation on the SVG email list.)

I can't promise to participate every week, but I can work with any of the
times proposed.  9am Eastern is a little early for me, but so long as
someone remembers to send out agendas the day before, I can probably be
persuaded to get out of bed if there is a topic I have strong opinions
about!  Better than making other people ruin their Friday nights...

Best,
Amelia BR

Thamks Tav, So far 9am is the best time. We will be monitoring more early

I am interested in participating but don't know how much time I can
commit so I wouldn't weight my response too high. The only slot that
works for me is 9am Friday (3pm CET) and even then I would have to cut
  out a few minutes early.
