Re: Similar Interests and spreading the message

I would say that A) this list is just getting started and B) it's first focus should be defining our scope of "sustainability." We're not even to "preaching to the converted" yet, as I wouldn't know what to preach. In fact, we'd probably all preach an entirely different thing if we were so tasked.

Let's make the most of the fact we're still a small group by having the basic conversations that are a prerequisite for spreading any sort of message.

"Sustainability" may be a buzzword, but its one that many other industries have embraced and have developed beyond the initial environmental concerns. This group could end up talking about energy consumption and cross-browser compatibility but also labor rights like fair wages for designers and developers, reuse and obsolescence like helping sites evolve over time instead of requiring full redesigns whenever a new idiom comes along, or even cultural impact... which could cover everything from the death of personal blogs at the hand of Facebook to network neutrality.

Note that I'm not saying we *should* tackle all these things, just that they could reasonably fall under a definition of "sustainability" as it is defined by other industries. So which ones are we talking about? Which ones are *not* getting talked about other places? That's the first conversation we need to have.

In my opinion. :)
