FW: TPAC 2015 Registration Now Open

Hello Socialites (since I'm sending this to the IG, I thought I'd also send to WG as a convenience to those chairs) ...

Here (below) are the info and sign-up links for the next Face-to-Face meeting opportunity, during the W3C Technical Plenary (aka "TPAC"). As you'll see, this TPAC will be in Sapporo, Japan, during the last week of October.

If there is any chance for you to attend, I really encourage it!

The TPAC is an exciting and fun web geek-fest. It is NOT a conference. This annual event is when most of the W3C WGs and IGs hold their F2F meetings, all at the same time and location. ~400 people attend the TPAC, many of whom are top web technology experts.

The goal is to enable collaboration across groups, in the cases where there are overlapping technical interests. (For example, at the TPAC in California last year, the Web Annotations WG requested a few hours with the Social Web WG, which was interesting.)

Our social meeting is scheduled for Thursday and Friday (Oct. 29 - 30). Regardless, I encourage you to attend for the entire week:

-- On Monday and Tuesday you can observe one or many WG meetings, on all the other topics. I think it's fascinating to see what other groups are thinking about, struggling with, how they work together, etc.

-- Wednesday is scheduled as one huge plenary session, with everyone all together. There are usually talks and panel discussions on topics of general interest, plus break out "unconference"-style self-organized sessions on any topics.

-- Thursday and Friday are the 2nd set of WG meetings, including ours.

If the huge variety of technical meetings isn't enough, then you need to come just to play 'Werewolf'! (A goofy group game, played most nights by any who want to stay up late and trick or be tricked. Are you the seer? Please believe me, I'm just a plain and ordinary villager .... )

Hope to see you in Sapporo! -- Ann

This will include a panel with Tim Berners-Lee, Jun Murai, and Vint Cerf

------------------------------------------
Advisory Committee Meeting / Group Meeting Overlap
------------------------------------------

Group Meetings Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday:

* 08:30-18:00: Traditional Group ftf meetings
* 12:00-14:00: Lunch (each group will determine their lunch time)
* 15:00-18:00: Unstructured time (for those groups that so choose)

Some groups have requested guidance on when to allocate Unstructured time to break into parallel informal discussions within their groups, for more cross-group conversation, or for more hallway conversation.

We encourage groups to have these informal discussions overlap the AC meeting to minimize hard conflicts for AC reps, and we encourage all groups to schedule their unstructured time at the same time, thus creating more opportunities for interaction.

This year we have scheduled the AC Meeting towards the end of the day from
15:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. We hope this will minimize the likelihood of conflicts with group meetings.

AC Representatives who would also like unstructured time within their Groups have the opportunity to use Monday and Friday and thus avoid conflict with the AC meeting.

TPAC 2015 Meeting feedback will help us determine the 2016 structure.

------------------------------------------
Remote participation
------------------------------------------

Groups may request telephone access for remote participants. We plan to use MIT's webex system as we have done for the past two AC Meetings.

If you plan to attend the Advisory Committee Meeting remotely, please let us know on acregister@w3.org as the number of requests may play a role in the level of service we provide.

IRC is available for all meetings.
