while this excerpt is true, this section originally used a different term
(model processors) because its conditions apply to deref() xpath function
extensions in contexts including but not limited to model validation.  As the
note following the steps indicates, these steps are insufficient for model
validation.  There is another class of embodiments here, we cannot (based on
earlier discussions) usefully say this applies to model validators.
