Silver in the news

In the latest “Accessibility News – September 2018” (email<https://abilitynetnews.org.uk/3SCI-FQ7X-2444Q55FFA/cr.aspx?v=1>), Joe Chidzik of Ability Net had this to say:

W3C Silver

In case you missed it, the successor to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) has been announced by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This update is currently unnamed, but the working title, W3C Silver, is very appropriate given that the chemical symbol for silver is Ag which can stand for accessibility guidelines.

There is no timeline as yet, and the update will be a number of years in the making, so we will keep you updated on any recent news. For any of our readers in the accessibility community, this is an excellent opportunity to input and help with things such as:

Writing Silver in plain/simple language – a big pitfall of the current WCAG is the complexity of the language used, so great to see this getting attention.

Links and resources for supporting content, examples, tutorials – again, another difficulty with the current guidelines we’re excited to see get addressed.
