MAIN OBJECTIVE: Today, nobody can contest that the amount and complexity
of scientific data are increasing exponentially. In life sciences, the
unique conjunction of complexity, size and importance of available data
deserves special attention in both Web Information Systems (WIS) and
data integration and mining areas. In the last few years, WIS have
become the favourite mean for offering open access to biological data.
Hundreds of data sources (DBs with either user or program interface),
numerous web sites,  peer-reviewed litterature are currently covering
multiple facets of biology (genomic sequences, protein structures,
pathways, omics data, etc.). However, the scientists have enormous
difficulties in keeping up with this data deluge. The effective and
efficient management and use of available data (including omics data),
and in particular the transformation of these data into information and
knowledge, is a key requirement for success in scientific discovery
process. In fact, the bottlenecks for life sciences have shifted from
data production to data access/integration, pre-processing,
analysis/mining, and interpretation.

Topics covered by the workshop include at least : Standards for web data
and metadata management, Web mining in life sciences , Complex
biological data modeling for data integration  and mining, Web data
quality and provenance , Semantic web and ontology-driven biological
data integration and mining, Architectures, applications and case studies

PAPER SUBMISSION: Original papers covering one or more topics are
solicited (not execeeding 12 pages in LNCS format). To facilitate the
reviewing process, authors are requested to express their intent to
submit a paper in the form of an abstract (about 200 words). Submitted
papers will be evaluated by at least two reviewers on the basis of
significance, originality, technical quality and should clearly
establish the research contribution and relation to related work. Papers
addressing one or more of the listed topics but in another application
domain than life sciences are welcome if the authors convincingly argue
the interest of the described work for life sciences. Position and
survey papers are also welcome.  The proceedings of WISE 2007 workshops
will be published in a Springer LNCS volume.

SPONSOR : The ISIBio project (French ministerium ACI IMPBio) whishes to
contribute to the workshop by funding an invited speaker and travel
expenses for selected PhD students having an accepted paper.
