<em> > objectives and tasks are

agrnda+ unstructured vs. structured

<em> EricN: proposed HCLSIG telecon, Mar 23

<em> Resolved: Next meeting Mar 23

<em> zakimg, take up agendum 3

Introductions - New participants since last call.

<em> JimM: this is my first time; calling in from Merck

Discuss the new template BioRDF proposal, and what the stated objectives and tasks are

<alanr> http://esw.w3.org/topic/BioRDF_Top_Level_Task

<alanr> http://esw.w3.org/topic/HCLSIG_BioRDF_Subgroup/Tasks/Brain_Atlas_condition_to_scans

alanr - thinks that BioRDF is "way to big"

alanr - wants to focus on scientific use case

<jluciano> +2 on scientific use case

eric n - thinks that it is useful to focus on a piece of scientific uses

alanr - "now" problems will make for a very productive project

<jluciano> I agree with Alan R - keep narrow, but I want to see the connection from Bench to Bedside

<alanr> http://esw.w3.org/topic/BioRDF_Top_Level_Task

http://esw.w3.org/topic/BioRDF_Top_Level_Task

<Zakim> Marja, you wanted to maybe make more detailed stories (scenarios) of user problems, environments etc.

marja-> what is user doing and what is the environment

<jluciano> 1+ on Marja comment

marja -> thinks that this will help with getting us focussed on "important bits"

<Marja> parkinsons was good case

<em> .me suggests RDF context be considered another agenda item and discuss at appropriate time

Scott Marshall -> Experimental question -> wants to make sure that the context for RDF is clearly understood, notion is that we have a painfully specific research question for instance transcription -> epigenetics

ScottM -> translating research question into data integration question using semweb tools took USCS Encode data and compared to transcription factor binding sites

ScottM -> couldn't do this without SemWeb

<em> .me would like to tease out specific usage scenario from scottm to add to SWHCLS demo and applications page

ScottM -> need to limit terms/concepts by asking specific questions

<em> mscottm, would you be willing to write your experiences up along the lines of ? http://www.w3.org/2005/04/swls/

<Zakim> em, you wanted to propose this task template is 'good enough' and to suggest tasks connect to use cases and back again

em -> wants to connect scoped tasks with applications we're talking about

<teds> em, good idea about connecting tasks & use cases.

<mscottm> yes, I would be willing to write up our experiences along those lines. A website has been planned in order to do that.

<Marja> who are the users, tasks etc. in stroke use case?

<Helen> Tanya, the ACPP group needs to make the charter visible to this group, I can make add it to the SW Wiki later today

<Helen> have to quit now, but may be able to re-join in 15 minutes

alanr -> don't have a specific scientific problem we're going to work on

<em> .me votes for smaller picture than bigger picture at this point; wonders if ericn can tease out some specific questions to add to his draft usecase?

ericn -> need a bigger picture to get doctors to understand the value

.me patient data is a hard resource to get

<teds> you're not kidding , brian.

<Marja> could we interview for instance couple of people in parkinson's field to get user scenarios?

alanr -> in order to motivate group to work on something we need a use case that is very specific

<em> .me would like for alanr to right down these questions to help ground the point he's making

+1 on writing down points

<em> .me thinks alanr is making a very good point; suggest lead by example

<scribe> ACTION: alanr writes down his points [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2006/03/09-hcls-minutes.html#action01]

<em> alanr, are you willing to take this action?

<scribe> ACTION: TimC defines use case and works with alanr [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2006/03/09-hcls-minutes.html#action02]

<em> .me suggests alan / timc "just do it" and write some of these use cases down! :)

<jluciano> I would be happy to edit review also

<alanr> done some already :)

<em> pointers?

<alanr> http://esw.w3.org/topic/HCLSIG_BioRDF_Subgroup/Tasks/Brain_Atlas_condition_to_scans

<alanr> http://esw.w3.org/topic/HCLSIG_BioRDF_Subgroup/Tasks/OMIM_Neural_diseases

<em> ah yes - thats the sort of example i'm looking for

<em> nicely scoped; focused

<alanr> also collecting... http://esw.w3.org/topic/HCLSIG_BioRDF_Subgroup/Tasks/Brain_Connectivity

<jluciano> let's record them - antibodies, knock outs, ....

<jluciano> tim's use case - one month in 5 minuts

<teds> we have a similar use case: for any particular analyte (protein, let's say), what assays are available commercialy, etc.?

<Marja> I would start from specific user scenarios and understand the needs and then think how to broaden it out

ScottM -> data linking problem "deep web" data is hidden in people's databases mostly relational. What might be possible is to show how data providers could best annotate their data to do more interesting research

<alanr> yes. Though see http://www.exactantigen.com/

ScottM -> reachable goal is to take a particular problem focussed ina particular disease ask what wasn't there in order for you to do that ex: people only provided cvs without semantic schema -> get's you to best practices that other people can adopt

<alanr> but agreed that 1 goal is to feed back how-to-do to providers

<Marja> can we start writing the stories from user's point of view in some research area?

<teds> that Exact Antigen link looks like it might be quite useful. thanks!

<Zakim> em, you wanted to ask scott if he'd be willing to write down this question and the data that would be used to answer it?

<Marja> I'm interested in participating in this - from usability/user experience point of view

<scribe> ACTION: writes down data that he has in mind, kinds of queries from his perspective that scientists would ask of the data [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2006/03/09-hcls-minutes.html#action03]

en -> we're running out of time

<jluciano> joanne will iterate with Scott M to edit and review/refine use case

reminds en that we have 10 mins left on the call

<Marja> and marja hopes to be involved too

<jluciano> Karen Skinner - PhD in Chemistry - identifying reagemts relates to the Blueprint project

tonya's on an airplane next week

scientific advisory board

<jluciano> I was unavailable last week - I didn't realize I didn't miss anything :-)

<scribe> ACTION: make this time slot available every week [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2006/03/09-hcls-minutes.html#action04]

<jluciano> recognize EM - not a SAB board - get the experts on the call. AGREE!!

<alanr> yes but how?

<jluciano> ask

<jluciano> neuroscience information gateway? Tim, what's the URL?

<teds> http://web.sfn.org/content/Programs/NeuroscienceDatabaseGateway/whitepaper.html
