Introductions: Marijke Keet, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano

Hi All,

I’m Marijke Keet, research assistant and PhD student (supervised by
Enrico Franconi) with the Knowledge Representation meets DataBases
(KRDB) Group, faculty of computer science, at the Free University of
Bozen-Bolzano, Italy.
I’ve studied both microbiology and computer science, worked for a few
years as IT engineer in industry, and currently focus my research on
(formal) representations of biological information & knowledge, and
bio-ontologies and granularity in particular.
With the KRDB group we intend to elaborate on theoretical aspects based
on the SIG’s work, in particular data management, interoperability and
reasoning with ontologies.

Having read other introduction-emails, it is interesting to see the
diverse backgrounds of the participants – good for synergy as well as
debates. Some of you may be interested reading a something about sister
research niches within CS&IT and (applied)bio:
http://www.inf.unibz.it/krdb/biology has extended abstracts and pointers
to further key references of the seminars on, among others,
bio(med/agri)-ontologies, medicine, cell bio, and systems (attempting
to) applying e.g. WSDL, use OWL and SeRQL.

Best regards and a happy new year,
Marijke
