If HTML5 fails to address the real business needs of its users (including Premium Content creators and owners), they will simply choose something else instead. If anyone thinks the DRM/Linux quandary is a problem today, what's going to happen to diversity in mobile platforms if content creators simply focus on the top 2 or 3 mobile platforms (or worse, the top 2)? How will this help Firefox OS? ChromeBook owners? RIM/Blackberry?

The bottom line is that it is the content owners who control their content - period.

We can either work with them towards an open technical solution, or they can go off and do it without our help, and let the chips fall where they may. Me, I prefer to be on the inside where I can be involved in the dialog, rather than on the outside watching from a distance.
