RE: [southerncross] SSB installation

Mike,
Hope this e-mail finds you doing well.
It's been a busy summer, and now I'm finally getting around to
installing and hooking up my SSB. We actually didn't get our boat in
the water this summer due to a few other major events. But now while
it's still warm and things are beginning to slow down, I thought that I
would try to get it hooked up and listen in over the winter.
And so at this point, the mast is down (therefore no antennae), and I'm
just curious as to what I really need to do to just listen. Did you
need to connect the DC ground to a rod (or is the battery neg. enough
for a ground). Also, if just listening, do you need your tuner, or
where did you connect your long wire.
We're still very new to the whole SSB radio, and any advice would be
appreciated.

One other question...I'm curious how you connected the power supply to
your SSB. Did you run the pos. directly to the battery with a fuse, or
did you run it to your regular distribution panel, or did you have a
separate single switch/breaker specifically for the SSB?

Take care

Keith and Florida

Keith:
Have essentially the same install as B & J Clark with similar success.
Also
have fun listening to the rig using a long wire and a grounding rod in
the
winter.
