I agree with most of your changes. I think they are all good suggestions. Again,
I think I would like to stay away from any description which is too procedural
or implementation oriented (such as introducing something like a 'deamon').

It seems that we are mostly in agreement though, and that the remaining part
could be left to editorial discretion.
