XQuery 1.0 - 4.5 Function Definitions - returns clause

In 4.5 mention is made of a "returns clause" but no description of allowed 
syntax is given, nor an example.

It may be deemed to obvious to mention but I suggest that a brief additional 
comment may aid clarity for the reader.
