Ok, I'll try to amend my useage of the term.

It just feels... awkward, since dealing with different encodings and languages
in input is a core feature of our application -- much like supporting HTML is
- -- and I think of I18N as the process or feature of the app itself working
well in an international context; i.e. by providing its output in an
international or universal encoding (UTF-8) and in multiple languages (l10n).

Heh! Mr. I18N's MUA can't deal with UTF-8... :-)
