W3C [PBG] Co-Chair Candidacy

Hello Publishing Business Group members,

As discussed yesterday in our call, Rick Johnson has decided to step down as co-chair of the Publishing Business Group.

With his expertise at VitalSource/Ingram, Rick has been an excellent colleague and brought important information to our discussions about the needs of the education market and what is happening with publications in that space. We will be sorry to see him go and thank him for his time and efforts over these last years.

With his departure, there is a vacancy in the PBG co-chairs. Luc and I feel strongly that a third person who can round out our experience with trade books and the North American and European markets would be a good fit for ensuring that this BG can address the standards requirements that might suit the needs of the widely varied publishing space.

We have opened up a call for candidates for a third co-chair to step forward and will hold this open until 12am GMT on Tuesday, January 22nd.

We already have one excellent candidate who has stepped forward with Dahei Shiohama of Media Do, who has sent his introduction to the BG.

If we have no further candidates by Tuesday night, we will move forward with appointing Dahei. If we do have further candidates, we will open up a vote to choose a new co-chair.

If you are interested in knowing more about what co-chairing would entail, please reach out to Luc, Liisa and Ivan. If you have a candidate statement you would like to submit, please send it to the PBG list.

Our group has much important work to do in 2019 as we try to determine the broader needs of our worldwide publishing communities and how we can expand development of future standards to address those needs as well as further adoption of the standards we have.

On behalf of the co-chairs,

Liisa McCloy-Kelley
