PBG co-chair candidacy intro Re: [PBG] Agenda for 20190115 call

Dear Publishing Business Group members,

Subsequent to Luc’s agenda below listing my candidacy for PBG co-chair, I would like to humbly present a snippet of my profile for those of you who may not know me.

My name is Daihei Shiohama (Mr.), a Japanese born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. I am the CEO of an eBook distribution company in San Diego, CA for the US and the global market, Media Do International, Inc. My parent company, Media Do Holdings (MDH) is the largest eBook distribution group for eBook retailers and libraries in Japan and also a W3C member.

I am an AC Rep of MDH, and a member of Advanced Publishing Lab (APL) in Japan, which was established under Keio University (the host of W3C activities in Japan), the 4 major publishers in Japan (KADOKAWA, Kodansha, Shogakukan, Shueisha), and Pubridge (a group company of MDH). APL is to collaborate with W3C and spearhead digital publishing efforts including EPUB and Web Publishing.

Together with the current PBG co-chairs whom I admire, I will work sincerely and expeditiously to achieve and propel the global interests of PBG members. At the same time, I will encourage more people from all the Asian participants in PBGーincluding Japan as well as China, Taiwan, Korea and othersーto be more vocal about their perspectives. Then, we can become more democratic, diverse, and practical.

In addition to digital publishing, I have been involved in various media (movies/video/music/gaming, etc) and digital businesses globally for over 30 years (since LaserDisc in 1981). I would like to contribute and provide my experiences and networks to W3C PBG for a better global future.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Daihei Shiohama
President & CEO
Media Do International, Inc.
