FWIW, I've been using SIP for my teleconferencing for a few weeks.

On a Mac, the client I use is Blink (http://icanblink.com/index.phtml). It
seems to work well enough. Has mute button :)

I have a free SIP account with http://www.freespeech.co.uk/.
