I agree. We have been using aria-expanded for these cases, but it seems like a more generic attribute, e.g. aria-hasTransition with a property specifying the type of transition (popup, popover, slideup, etc) may be more appropriate. If it is not desirable to deviate too much from the existing spec, then simply modifying aria-hasPopup s a good alternative. The only question remains is to what types of transitions will cut the list?
