I wasn’t sure if I could work on the survey again after submitting so here are my thoughts on the first 10:

·        active
·         needs a definition. What is the intent?

·        chunks -breaks the content up in to smaller sections with a single topic per section.
·          I think chunks is an odd word but I don’t have a better suggestion. Do people feel that this word is well understood?
The idea was to provide white space around items that made up a topic so it could be an image and some text that needed to be seen togeher or just a paragraph.  Really hard to describe but I had in mind bite sized chunks! https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/bite-sized may be we just have to stay with smaller sections? or small pieces of information?

·        easylang -provides a rewrite of the content using short sentences and simple language.
·          I think we need to provide a more concrete definition of short sentences and simple language.  A quick proposal: Uses sentences with fewer than XX words and uses only word of 3(?) syllables or less.
Could we say in English  " Sentences should be 10 - 15 words long and contain just one main idea"  UK Gove digital service did some research into this aspect of east to read - https://insidegovuk.blog.gov.uk/2014/08/04/sentence-length-why-25-words-is-our-limit/    Syllables are hard to quantify, as there could be words longer than three syllables that are important such as place names etc.

·        explain -provides a more detailed description of a process or term.
·          Should we require this in simple language?
·        Yes I think so although maybe if it is an academic site this would be a hard so perhaps we need to have caveats.

·        extrahelp -additional information about the current action or process in one or more formats.
·          we should list the other acceptable formats - phone conversation, online chat, easylang version, more details, etc.
·

·        feedback - provides and identifies immediate information about any action that occurs.
·          I think we need to specify what type of feedback is acceptable; easylang, numberfree, ???, etc.
·

·        largefont
·          Needs a definition - what is large?  Isn’t this already covered by WCAG?
The general concensus seems to be that 12-14 point is acceptable so 16 point may be considered large for readers who do not have visual impairments but perhaps have reading difficulties.  But it does vary depending on the orthography - Arabic is so much easier to read when larger.

EasySurf says " Use a reasonable font size in your standard setting. Experts in easy read and in learning difficulties recommend a minimum font size of 12 pt to 14 pt. British Dyslexia Style Guide " Font size should be 12-14 point or equivalent (e.g. 1-1.2em / 16-19 px). Some

·        lessoptions -provide fewer choices by combining related choices together
·          authors are going to need examples on how best to achieve this. Will it require additional inputs to get the same level of granularity? I’m not exactly sure how to accomplish this?  Given a airline booking rather than providing for flight selections within two hour windows the site could provide 4 - morning, afternoon, evening, night. But, the consequence of that is the user now has to look through more flight options.  Has this really helped?

·          okay - provide examples
·        'bite-sized chunks'  small pieces of information!
'raining cats and dogs' - it is raining heavily
'Heaving with people' - full of people

Oh help does this mean

If there are any new terms that we think might be needed to describe alternative content  - now is the right time to suggest them!

I am CCing EA Jan and Shari  - it would be really good to have your comments as well. This is for terms to discribe wht support is availible in the content to help people find the version they need. We will probably augment the webscheam vocabulary<https://www.w3.org/wiki/WebSchemas/Accessibility> as well, so it is worth looking at the too together.
