PID PIM [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Hi all,

While remaining fairly quite on this list for some time, several of my Australian colleagues and I have been thinking a lot about the discussion of PID data representation and functions associated with it, such as the exporting of the PURL DB. We've got domain name-specific HTTP URIs, DOIs, IGSNs, PURLs - most of the known PID types - in play in our organisations and want to capture the essentials of all their different systems in order to be able to not just design better next-generation PID systems but also to be able to design better organisation policy that will, hopefully, prevent future PURL scares.

One thing we are doing now is to consider whether it's possible to establish a Platform Independent Model for PIDs' metadata that is independent even of HTTP URIs as a PID implementation. We'd like anything we come up with the be able to cover Handle-based PIDs and so on too.

Would members on this list like to be involved in establishing the requirements for, and perhaps ultimately the details of a PID PIM?
