 Christine,

As you know, Agence de la biomédecine (AB) is a public organisation in
France dealing with Public Health Issues related to organs, cells and
tissues transplantation, genetics, reproductive medicine and stem cell
research.
To fulfill its missions, especially those related to organ procurement,
organ allocation and evaluation of medical activities working in its field
of competence, AB maintains a national information system that is required
to integrate data coming from heterogeneous hospital patient databases and
to maintain a terminological server able to support various medical
terminologies.
In such a context, AB would benefit from new approaches in knowledge based
ITs. OWL2 offers promising means for the management of large medical
ontologies required in our institution. OWL2 should facilitate the use of
our medical ontology in our real life applications, in production databases
and datawarehouses as well.
Rule extensions might also be useful to support organ allocation rules that
are a sensitive and complex field.

We thus encourage all efforts that are done by OWL working group to provide
us in accurate tools and language for knowledge based medical information
systems.
