Research Associate Position in Linguistic Linked Data / Computational Semantics, Semantic Computing Group, Bielefeld University

The Semantic Computing Group at Bielefeld University is looking to fill
a position as research associate, either at PhD or postdoctoral level.
The position is associated to the newly granted project "Pret-A-LLOD"
which is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020
program. The goal of the project is to develop new principles for
linguistic linked data publishing and to lay the foundations for a
sustainable ecosystem of NLP services that exploit Linguistic Linked
Data. The candidate is expected to develop new formalisms, tools and
methods to manage and publish datasets as Linked Open Data. The focus of
the Semantic Computing Group will be on developing novel approaches for
indexing RDF datasets according to linguistic principles as a basis to
develop novel and advanced NLP services that support querying and
accessing data that is published on the Web following Semantic Web
standards. As a specific objective the group intends to develop new
tools for the generation and publication of grammars-as-a-service (GAAS)
which can support the configuration, virtualization and deployment of
Question Answering Systems over RDF data.

The following qualifications are mandatory:

1) Master's degree in computer science, computational linguistics or
related

2) Solid programming skills and experience (e.g. Python or Java)

3) Strong analytical skills

4) Demonstrated ability to perform research (e.g. demonstrated via
publications)

5) Knowledge of computational linguistics, computational semantics,
and/or natural language processing

The following qualifications are a plus:

1) PhD in computer science or computational linguistics / natural
language processing

2) Advanced knowledge of Semantic Web formalisms and methods (RDF,
Linked Data, SPARQL)

3) Advanced knowledge in computational and compositional semantics

4) Practical Experience working with grammars, parsing, meaning composition

5) Experience with cloud architectures or virtualization (e.g. Docker)

The salary will be according to scale TV-L13 of the German University
system, amounting to approx. 3.800 EUR per month before taxes, depending
on civil status. It is a full time position. The starting date of the
position is planned March 2019.
