Re: Educational purpose

Interjecting briefly: the issue with all of these is that they’re really
poorly-defined, legally-speaking, and even when one can arrive at a
definition, the definition varies quite significantly by jurisdiction, so
it’s really difficult to specify what ‘educational use’ means.

Self-directed learning? Affiliated with a recognised institution?
On-premises, or off? Logging in with an academic auth scheme (at which
point, why not just specify that members of that scheme can use it)? What
about corporate training schemes, particularly where they result in an
accredited qualification?

You get the idea :)

Creative Commons has gone for years without ever being able to define what
‘non-commercial’ actually means - and tends to lean slightly towards
recommending that people probably shouldn’t rely on it meaning what they
think it does, especially internationally, so it’s more often than not
better to not bother.
