Work in Progress on Media Working Group Charter (Advance Notice)

Hello,

This is an advance notice that a draft charter for a possible Media Working Group is being developed, following discussions in the Media and Entertainment Interest Group.

The Media Working Group would develop and improve client-side media processing and playback features on the Web by standardizing media related specifications and features that have matured in the Web Platform Incubator Community Group [0]. The group would also maintain and further develop the existing Media Source Extensions (MSE) Recommendation [1].

Maintenance of Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) [2] is also envisioned as well as further development under incubation in the Web Platform Incubator Community Group.

Following the Director's recommendation, we provide three sample charters in order to get maximum member feedback before a draft charter gets formally sent to the Advisory Committee for review:

1. A charter without EME
2. A charter with EME
3. A charter with EME, that requires protection for investigation and disclosure of security vulnerabilities in implementations or use of EME, which is the Director's preference assuming that EME is included

To ease review, a single document that contains the three sample charters and highlights text specific to each of them has been prepared:

Before starting the formal review we would welcome input and feedback on the playback of encrypted content:

And any other input and feedback on the draft charter as a whole on the GitHub repository:
