MusicXML 3.1 discussion topics for Musikmesse

Hello all,

I am gratified to see such a lively and insightful discussion about the MNX proposal!

I would like to call your attention to our other main topic for the Musikmesse meeting - a review of the status of MusicXML 3.1. There are a few things that I would like to discuss to help us get MusicXML 3.1 released.

First, is our V3.1 milestone on GitHub complete? Are there issues that do not have the V3.1 milestone that we may want to add in? If so, this is the time to discuss it. You can see the open issues that are not targeted for V3.1 at:

https://github.com/w3c/musicxml/issues?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=is%3Aissue%20is%3Aopen%20-milestone%3AV3.1%20 <https://github.com/w3c/musicxml/issues?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=is:issue%20is:open%20-milestone:V3.1>

There are also several interrelated open issues regarding how to identify MusicXML files. These are the issues with an “Interactive” label in the V3.1 milestone (50, 51, 185, and 191). They include:

Do we want to change the media type for MusicXML from application/vnd.recordare.musicxml to application/org.w3c.musicxml - or perhaps even better, application/musicxml?
Do we want to add a mimetype file to compressed MusicXML files to make it easier for programs to identify them?
Do we want to recommend a unique file suffix for uncompressed MusicXML files?

Finally, what will be our timeline for releasing MusicXML 3.1? We want to have multiple implementations so we can test the different new features and resolve any outstanding problems. MakeMusic is interested in implementing MusicXML 3.1 in our Dolet for Finale and Dolet for Sibelius plug-ins. Who else might want to also do an early implementation?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these issues, whether on this mailing list or at the meeting. I look forward to seeing many of you in Frankfurt!

Best regards,
