Comments proposed resolutions -- Re: Call for Review: Accessibility Requirements for People with Low Vision

Hi Denis,

Thanks for reviewing the draft and sharing your comments! The Low Vision Task Force has worked on them and we have proposed resolutions for your consideration.

* Section 2.2 Incidence <https://github.com/w3c/low-vision-a11y-tf/issues/32>

The task force agreed that it would be good to more clearly present the main point that there are many more people who have low vision than are blind. However, we thought it best to present the percentages more clearly, and not to add the part about roughly 6.31 times.

Please see the latest proposal -- at the end of the thread on GitHub -- and indicate if you are comfortable with that resolution.

* Section 2.3 Cause and Progression of Low Vision <https://github.com/w3c/low-vision-a11y-tf/issues/33>

The main point of this paragraph is to introduce some causes of low vision. The main point is not to discuss age differences. Also, we want to keep the language simple.

Are you comfortable with the first wording option at <https://github.com/w3c/low-vision-a11y-tf/issues/33#issuecomment-203446324>, or do you think it misses important information? If the latter, does the second option work, or do you have another suggestion? Reply in GitHub would be most helpful.

Thanks,
~Shawn

I believe there is value in comparison, especially when it comes to advocacy, because we often have to debunk the myth that accessibility is for people who are blind. Demonstrating the ratio between low vision users ans blind users always has a lasting effect on the people I teach to. I also feel like that sentence is too long. If you agree, then I would recommend the following addition/changes:
>
> "In a fact sheet on visual impairment and blindness [WHO-VI], the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are 246 million people worldwide who have low vision and 39 million people are blind. This indicates that 86% of the people with visual impairments have low vision. This means there are roughly 6.31 times as many people who have low vision than people who are blind.”

While some low vision conditions come from birth defects or injuries, an increasing number of such conditions are found in seniors, as eye diseases and health conditions become more prevalent as people get older."
