RE: WCAG 1.4.4 and resolution/DPI

In my experience resolution does matter. For example at a starting resolution over 2200 I can zoom in to 200% and never hit a responsive break point. With a resolution of 1280x768 I can start and hit 2 breakpoints. In one of the breakpoints some functionality is not available. In other cases for non-responsive sites that are quasi fluid the resolution very much can affect when the issues occur or don't occur. I think your assumption is that non-responsive sites will just zoom and responsive sites will work automatically because they will want them to appear correctly for mobile. But again I find pages where this is not the case that have shared before with snap-to-scrolling, fixed headers, etc.

I would suggest starting with 1280x768 or 1280x960 or similar resolution.

Subject: RE: WCAG 1.4.4 and resolution/DPI

Hi Jason,

The resolution should not impact testing, it is whether it can be made 200% bigger from its starting point.

Is there a scenario you have discovered where resolution makes testing difficult?

Kind regards,

-Alastair

Greetings,

Are there recommendations at which resolution/DPI should be tested to meet the 200% resizing requirement?
