[CfP] International Workshop on Semantic Audio and the Internet of Things (ISAI18) / IEEE FRUCT23

IEEE FRUCT23 International Workshop on Semantic Audio and the Internet of Things (ISAI18). Submission deadline: 14 Sept. 2018. Workshop: 14-15. Nov. 2018., Bologna, Italy. [Apologies for cross-postings. Please forward to interested colleagues and mailing lists.]

** First Call for Contributions **

Dear All,

The International Workshop on Semantic Audio and the Internet of Things (ISAI18) provides a forum to disseminate and discuss research in the intersection of Audio and IoT. Examples include but not limited to environmental audio analysis and event detection in sensor networks and the Internet of Musical Things. We aim to bring together researchers working in Semantic Audio and IoT for the first time to facilitate discussion and partnerships in this emerging interdisciplinary field.

We invite papers, posters and demos to ISAI2018 that will be held in Bologna, Italy on 14-15 November 2018, in conjunction with the 23rd FRUCT Conference.

** About FRUCT **
The 23rd FRUCT Conference is organized by University of Bologna and the Open Innovations Association FRUCT, a large regional cooperation framework that promotes open innovations of academia and industry. Participants typically come from Italy, Finland, Russia, UK, Denmark, India, and other countries. Industry is primary represented by Dell EMC, Nokia, MariaDB, Intel, Jolla, Open Mobile Platform, Skolkovo, etc. FRUCT is a sister of the IEEE ComSoc and the 23rd FRUCT Conference is sponsored by the IEEE Italian and Siberian Sections.

** Background and Workshop Objectives **
Semantic Audio is a research area devoted to the application of Semantic Web technologies to music and audio in general. The extraction of meaningful information through audio analysis yields metadata that different application areas may take advantage of. Music information retrieval, environmental sound recognition and event detection, audio production, gaming and intelligent live performance tools such as smart instruments are a few examples among numerous applications in this domain. A wider research area, with a stronger link with Semantic Audio is the Internet of Things. The latter may exploit Semantic Audio methodologies to process audio signals produced by sensors, the main building blocks of IoT applications. This can be applied, for instance, in environments such as smart buildings or smart cities. Conversely, Semantic Audio may benefit from IoT and its native propensity to interoperability, as in the case of the Internet of Musical Things (IoMuT), to explore new ways of producing and accessing musical content, or new ways of using audio for sensing and control in smart environments.

** Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following subject areas:
- Speech and environmental audio processing and analysis for the Internet of Things
- Audio signal processing and feature extraction in the IoT
- Semantic audio description and ontologies
- Semantic Web and Linked Data for audio
- Music informatics and retrieval in networked environments
- Internet of Musical Things
- IoT technologies in professional audio production and delivery
- Collaborative creation of audio content in networks
- Applications in gaming, VR/AR, entertainment, education, surveillance, wearables, etc.

** Contributions:
- Full papers (min 6 full pages and up to 12 pages)
- Short papers (min 2, max 5 pages)
- Position papers (max 2 pages)
- Poster or demo summary (min 1, max 5 pages)
All papers must include references in the allotted page limits. Please note that an author can be a coauthor of a maximum of three documents of all types.

Paper submission is via EasyChair accessible from the FRUCT submission site: https://www.fruct.org/node/370121 (LaTeX and MS Word templates are available).

All workshop papers will be published as Open Access in the FRUCT Proceedings. Full papers will also be included in IEEE Xplore and indexed by Scopus, ACM, DBLP, RSCI, Google Scholar. Proceedings of the FRUCT Conference are included in the Scimago Journal Rank. Selected papers will be recommended for CPCI indexing (Web of Science). FRUCT proceedings are included to DOAJ. In addition, in case of successful presentation and recommendation by the session chair some papers will be invited to submit an extended version of the paper free of charge in IJERTCS journal (indexed by Scopus).
