Apologies for the delay. Am currently job-hunting and to meet some
deadlines, but I now have a little free time again to devote to this
small university name/domain matching effort of mine.

We must have our wires crossed, because I'm quite sure that (unless
I'm John Malkovich), PubMed wasn't assembled on the basis that each of
the universities *I* will be searching for is listed as an affiliation
in at least one publication within NCBI :)

Sure, but the input set and the indexed fields are also different.
That doesn't mean that the NCBI suits my needs, though ;)

I generally like DDG better than Google and Bing but haven't yet tried
it for this application. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep DDG in
reserve in case other strategies don't work out.

Thank you also to the others who have made helpful comments on and off
the list. I think I have received enough suggestions now. If I make
any worthwhile headway, I'll post here again to let you know what it
consisted of.
