Open Access, Open Data, Open Source, Open Platforms, Open Licenses

We are experiencing a convergence of trends heralding the Age of True Open Data, Source, Access and Platforms.

The patent wars between Apple and Samsung, Oracle and Google, the academia and Science Journal Publishers and the financial crunch around the world are forcing corporations and non-profits, academic institutions and governments alike to consider migrating to open platforms and open activities.

The articles on the Creative Commons page http://www.creativecommons.org/tag/world-bank suggest that soon open access journals, open licenses for technology, open data and open source will be embraced by corporations, non-profits, academic institutions and governments alike for purely economic reasons.

This signifies a potential drastic increase in interest for linked data and semantic web technologies.

I would like to recommend to create if not existent, or combine if already present activities from WGs at the W3C and affiliated and /or partner institutions to facilitate better communications, information and links to institutes, programs and projects dealing with linked data and the semantic web in support of these developments.

Paola DiMaio's suggestion for a WG for Semantic Interfaces comes at the right moment.

But much more will be needed to get linked data and the Semantic Web under the attention of those now considering open technologies, source, data, platforms and information access.
