IRIs (be they HTTP URIs, HTTP URLs etc..) denote things.
Documents can Identify things when their content is comprised of 
statements that describe things (basically connotation via description 
statements that can be represented as an RDF statement based graph 
pictorial).

If we stick with terminology outlined in AWWW (Architecture of the World 
Wide Web) and RDF specs, we'll negated these perennial issues with 
terminology.
