RE: Progress on URL spec

Hello Adam,

My fellow co-chair, Marc Blanchet, and I welcome you to our efforts here. While things have been silent lately, behind the scenes we've been working on reenergizing this effort in a way that should produce better results. Hopefully we can all arrive at the necessary set of documents efficiently and productively together.

As I understand your proposal, your goal is to describe how browsers currently parse URIs. This is naturally of interest to our working group, so discussing your work here seems sensible.

I question this bit of your message:

If the goal is to produce a document that can be referenced or even just productively discussed, then it probably needs to be published via one or another standards process. The Internet-Draft process is open to individual submissions as well as WG documents. If, at some point, we (this WG and you) decide that this work should be an official WG document (we are, in fact, chartered to produce a document on "Syntax, parsing, comparison of IRIs"), then by all means let us pursue that. However, even if we never agree or if this WG's work and yours never converge, the Internet-Draft and RFC process are still extremely useful means of publishing information and making it generally available as a reference. I would therefore urge you to spend the time to create an Internet-Draft which can then better serve as the basis for discussion of URI parsing.

Regards,

Addison

Internationalization is not a feature.
It is an architecture.
