True, but extensions have to be written separately for each browser. What would be better is a standard mechanism for assistive technologies, the operating system or specialized applications to serve need/preference data to the browser. In addition to or instead of this, it should be possible for a Web application to populate the profile. One could even imagine a browser configuration option that lets the user specify a URI for a script that defines such a profile (executed upon start-up).
