RE: MPEG-2 TS metadata cue guidelines

>>I was under the impression the UAıs were planning to detect and prevent duplicates, not just delete cues when seeking backwards. For example, right now WebKit leaves cues alone when you seek, then doesnıt add cues if theyıre already in the list.

The problem with this approach is when tracks are generated dynamically and inserted into the stream, for instance in the case of ad insertion, that the cues may be different. This would place a heavy burden on the UA comparing the complete contents of a payload against the previous payload that it received in this slot and replacing them if different. Since the cues will always be regenerated when playing forwards there is no need for this heavy burden so they can just get deleted. The only caveat is that the UA must keep separate lists on inband and out of band cues (which won't necessarily get automatically regenerated) but this is not such a big deal. As to what WebKit already does, my presumption is that the only support that WebKit has for inband tracks is something very new.
