[html-bidi] Additional features to 'Additional Requirements for Bidi in HTML'

Hello,

On March 25th the Israeli W3C office held a workshop revolving around the
document 'Additional Requirements for Bidi in HTML'. The purpose of the
workshop was to gather Israeli Bidi experts in order to review the document
and possibly suggest changes or new features that should be added to it. The
Workshop was led by Aharon Lanin, editor of the document.

The following people participated in the workshop: Aharon Lanin, Yuval
Atzmon, Simon Montagu, Tom Bigelajzen, Shoshannah Forbes, Amit Aronovitch,
Eyal Sela (W3C Israel representative)

Below is a list of statements/features that we believe should be discussed
and possibly integrated into the document.

Below each statement is the opinion of each of the participants about it
(excluding Aharon Lanin, Amit Aronovitch and me).

(attached to this email is a PDF version of the list, for easier reading.)

*** hflip will be able to define two URLs - one for an rtl image and one for
ltr image.

Yuval Atzmon In favor, user's responsibility to make sure the
same height/width settings work for both images

Simon Montagu In favor (I'll work out a suggestion for the
syntax and send it to the list)

Tom Bigelajzen Against. Not enough of an improvement to justify
still more new syntax.

Shoshannah Forbes In favor, user's responsibility to make sure the
same height/width settings work for both images

***make sure that hflip doesn't cause a bug in vector graphics

Simon Montagu In favor

 Tom Bigelajzen -

Shoshannah Forbes In favor

*** <li> - change default alignment -- the default alignment for <li>
should not be according to its dir but according to the list's dir (rtl list
item in an ltr list should be aligned to the left unless explicitly stated
otherwise)

*** When using dir="auto" the implementation must determine the direction
before it displays any part of the text.

*** The bdi values could be: before | after | both | none , instead of the
suggested yes, no, and bdi.

Yuval Atzmon Against, I prefer the simpler yes/no (although I
admit I'm not sure what before/after means for isolatoin)

Simon Montagu Against (I'm not sure what the use case is, and it
is likely to complicate the implementation)

Tom Bigelajzen Against. Too complicated, no clear use case, and
may make it more difficult to integrate into CSS.

Shoshannah Forbes -

*** The behavior of a scroll bar in frame should be determined. Probably
should be according to the body of the inner document.

Yuval Atzmon In favor

Simon Montagu in favor

 Tom Bigelajzen In favor

Shoshannah Forbes In favor

*** The workaround suggested for title on an outer element doesn't work on
an alt. on the other hand, you don't really need that workaround since you
can put the alt direction in the dir attribute, which has on other use on an
image. we agree that it would be clearest to have altdir and titledir.
