Review of actions

    Shervin: Still working on ACTION-12

    <Shervin> Close Action-17

    <trackbot> Closed Action-17.

    r12a: action-18 is done

    <Shervin> Close Action-18

    <trackbot> Closed Action-18.

r12a: Re action-20, now that we have decided to not change the
schedule, I'm going to set up the new meeting

Shervin: Waseem cannot be here today, but he mentioned that he
    will be joining more regularly

Behnam: Re ACTION-22 and ACTION-23, I'm behind on my actions
and will get to them soon

    <mostafa> [11]https://github.com/w3c/alreq/issues/14

      [11] https://github.com/w3c/alreq/issues/14

mostafa: Re ACTION-24, started the gdoc document and working on
    it

    <Shervin> Close Action-28

    <trackbot> Closed Action-28.

r12a: A Unicode conference is being held in Oman in February
(14-16), organized by the German university

Shervin: Re recruiting: we have two people introduced by
Alolita, and one more person from IBM, who worked on the
    calendar

<najib> Too busy past week to advance forward on the glossary.

    najib, please go ahead

<najib> Sure can give it enough time this week.

    <najib> That's it

    <Shervin> Thanks, najib.

r12a: About recruiting, let's try to make sure people invited
are active, on the meetings, with drafting, etc

    <r12a>
    [12]http://www.w3.org/International/groups/arabic-layout/#join

      [12] http://www.w3.org/International/groups/arabic-layout/#join

    Shervin: agree with Richard
... I try to be clear about the two steps, following up the
work of the WG vs being active in the WG

Glossary progress and plan to finalize it

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nSxYKQm_mKroCmxU4fyJ-g70Eo1_mF89yHZg8YNOuzc/edit?usp=sharing

Shervin: looking at the gdoc, it seems like we have to lower
the priority for items missing translation
... what people think about it?

    mostafa: +1

    <r12a> +1

    <najib> +1

mostafa: Let's not spend too much time on the glossary

    <najib> I'll add more translations..

<Shervin> ACTION: Shervin to process the glossary for the
    editors' draft [recorded in
    [14]http://www.w3.org/2015/11/24-alreq-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-29 - Process the glossary for the
editors' draft [on Shervin Afshar - due 2015-12-01].

Shervin: I'll work on a script that converts the table in gdoc
to HTML to put on the github repo

mostafa: if anyone needs an extra hand with the automation, I
    can help

Shervin: I'll look into the options for moving forward this
week and report back next week

Drafting status: Character charts

mostafa: I haven't done much new work on this

    <Shervin>
    [15]https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nxXVe7wgPtqekAXqMLn
    NVJjmP8-XK_sgkCsrf3zxPp0/edit

      [15]
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nxXVe7wgPtqekAXqMLnNVJjmP8-XK_sgkCsrf3zxPp0/edit

Shervin: the chart does not include digits yet
... question for people: should we add Bidi Control Characters
    to our charts?
... How much details we want to add to this chart?

    <mostafa>
    [16]https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uPrxdtedlodiabT4SjptfVq
    umeHJCe8Pkl8eWXFiFJc/edit?ts=56389689#

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uPrxdtedlodiabT4SjptfVqumeHJCe8Pkl8eWXFiFJc/edit?ts=56389689

mostafa: re the latter question: I created separate tables for
    the groups of characters
... and for details, I suggest to have language and
joining-behavior of characters in the tables

Shervin: I'm going to work on the table and change it to be
easily used in the document mostafa has

r12a: +1 to having separate tables in the document per
    character category/type
... also separate columns for languages

    <mostafa> +1

<r12a> +1 to use of language tags

Behnam: Let's use language tags in the charts and avoid using
    terms "Arabic" and "Persian" loosely

    <najib> +1

Shervin: +1 on having separate columns for languages, making it
    easier to read the charts
... mostafa, would you like to maintain the tables manually, or
do you want to generate them from CLDR?
... question for everyone: what should we do about characters
present in our tables, but not being in CLDR?
... So, the question is what source we should rely on for the
list of characters in the table?

    <mostafa> [17]http://www.w3.org/TR/jlreq/#character_classes

      [17] http://www.w3.org/TR/jlreq/#character_classes

Behnam: IMO, as long as we have all the characters that we want
to talk about, in text layout matters mostly, it shouldn't
    matter much

r12a: in JLReq work, characters are pointed out for behaving
    differently in justification, etc
... we may not be able to make a decision right now

    <Shervin>
    [18]http://unicode.org/cldr/utility/list-unicodeset.jsp?a=%5B%3
    AARABIC%3A%5D&g=&i=

      [18]
http://unicode.org/cldr/utility/list-unicodeset.jsp?a=%5B%3AARABIC%3A%5D&g=&i=

mostafa: I was thinking about these tables to be used by type
designer or software engineers as a reference for what
    characters to support

Shervin: it's not possible to have these tables work as an
exhaustive list of characters for a type designer
... re r12a's comment, it was not possible for the Japanese
document to have an exhaustive list of characters, but we can
    do so for Arabic script

r12a: The Japanese TF felt the need of having a table for the
characters afterward, when working on justification

    <mostafa> +1

    <mostafa> +1

    <r12a> +1

Shervin: anything else on this topic?

Typographic considerations

    Shervin: Let's hear from najib

    <najib>
    [19]https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IRgcMygoovniN_qL1cjD2WB
    -FiSyYFKlzEblvJuxRgY/edit?usp=sharing

      [19]
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IRgcMygoovniN_qL1cjD2WB-FiSyYFKlzEblvJuxRgY/edit?usp=sharing

    <Shervin> Please go ahead najib.

    <najib> Still drafting it

<najib> Filled an issue about it

<najib> My idea is to talk about origine and evolution of
    Arabic styles,

    <najib> different generic scripts

<najib> and then fonts in printing and computer.

<najib> The use of fonts and what are the technical
    constraints.

<najib> and then may be some best practices in choosing fonts
    styles and sizing.

    <najib> what elseā€¦

<najib> look for references to put if details stuff from
    elsewhere.

    <najib> That's it

    <r12a> i'm a little concerned because i don't think we should
    be writing authoring guidelines

<r12a> it seems like that is part of Najib's intention

Shervin: I think we need to cover font size matching and
    matters like that

<r12a> i think the descriptions of the styles is useful
    background

<najib> That's not my intention. Only some warnings about thing
    to avoid

<najib> Yes there are some other matters to cover also.

Shervin: Let's continue the discussion next week so we can have
    najib on the call

    <najib> Yes

<najib> Yes there are some other matters to cover also.

<najib> Important things are to put here. Font size and related

    <najib> please comment ..

<Zakim> najib, you wanted to discuss AOB

<najib> We should continue discussion be email during week.
