last calls and cr

    chris: doug, your topic?

    <shepazu> [18]http://www.w3.org/News/2012#entry-9425

      [18] http://www.w3.org/News/2012#entry-9425

    <shepazu> [19]http://www.w3.org/TR/WebIDL/

      [19] http://www.w3.org/TR/WebIDL/

    doug: WebIDL CR
... defining interface for Java binding
    ... many specs use it
... the problem has been that while it's not done many specs
    use it
... the exit criteria is a bit unusual
... not meant to be implemented in UAs
... Microsoft pretty heavily creates descriptions to transform
    those
    ... for the code base
... but not something that an author would know/use

    chris: something implementers could use?

    -> [20]http://www.w3.org/TR/WebIDL/#cr-exit exit criteria
    section

      [20] http://www.w3.org/TR/WebIDL/#cr-exit

doug: you can use stabs, e.g., written by C language
... one of the Widgets spec, e.g., selector, uses WebIDL
    ... HTML5 as well

[ geolocation also uses it ]

    doug: many groups use WebIDL
... they care about the status of the WebIDL spec
... more precisely describe JavaScript usage
... description on JavaScript binding is important for
    interoperability

    steven: similar to XHTML modularization
... we always have long discussion

doug: XML stacs, etc. are also not directly implemented
    ... maybe Liam knows better

<ChrisL> charmod might be another example

doug: we talked to Ralph about what the CR exit criteria should
    be

chris: suggestion on changing the HCG call time
... more use of email list
... it would be faster to wait 2weeks for the next HCG call
... open to change the call time again, though

debbie: as the public ML, can people post?

chris: think any one who has W3C account can post
    ... will check the situation

<ChrisL> ACTION: chris to check on public-hypertext-cg posting
    permissions [recorded in
    [21]http://www.w3.org/2012/04/20-hcg-minutes.html#action04]

    <trackbot> Created ACTION-5 - Check on public-hypertext-cg
posting permissions [on Chris Lilley - due 2012-04-27].

debbie: it would be good if WG/IG members who are concerned
post back to the HCG list on the Media handling discussion

    doug: probably going to cross-post
... but many people don't like it
... what is the advantage to cross-post to HCG?

chris: if there is things happening to multiple groups,
    cross-posting would be useful
... not encouraging to do that
... by putting HCG, people who don't check the original list
    can join the discussion

    doug: there is WHAT-WG list
... HCG or some reincarnation of HCG
... people can say this should be done here, etc.
... wondering how to make the discussion more useful

debbie: how do you make people know about discussions

doug: link on the front page
... "if you have technical questions, send emails here", etc.
... I know there are a lot of people who think WHATWG page is
    more useful
... giving people an entry point would be useful
... maybe not the HCG, though
    ... an umbrella activity

chris: one line status report would be fine
    ... it's helpful

    <ChrisL> chairs list is w3c member-only though

debbie: regarding technical questions, maybe more appropriate
to discussion on the Chairs list

doug: it doesn't have to a "group" but could be just a list

chris: next meeting in two weeks?

    Steven: regrets

    janina: HTML WG f2f

    chris: me as well
... do we want to skip the week?

    debbie: fine

<ChrisL> May 4 hcg cancelled, next meeting May 18

    [ adjourned ]
