the missing line quoting Lief (apologies):

As for: http://intertwingly.net/blog/, it uses <!DOCTYPE html>, and
http://golem.ph.utexas.edu/~distler/blog/ is served as
application/xhtml+xml. So neither is flagged with an error in the
1.6alphas of Firebug.
