Semantic MediaWiki [0] is an extension which can be installed (nearly)
painlessly and removed as well at any time without destroying the page
structures. It operates on the page level and can identify relations between
the pages in the usual semantic S-P-O model.
From experience, this works rather well (especially for complex searches) but
it undoubtedly increases the need for people who maintain all of the
relations in addition to the text.

Since SMW is a research project, they're certainly open for further
suggestions. The other implication is that it's not complete yet, but as I
said it doesn't get into the way of usual editing.
