One more thing here: the WHATWG version of the microdata spec [1], which contains specifications of microdata equivalents to vCard [2] and iCalendar [3] doesn't use the lang property to populate the LANGUAGE properties of those formats.

If someone volunteers to create/shepherd lang-related bugs on microdata, it would be worth raising these on the WHATWG spec as well.
