name attribute and video click on

The name attribute is easier to understand and use than id,  and translates 
nicely as live links in pdf files. I am having trouble  understanding id 
and setting down the basic syntax that can be replicated as  needed.
 
Also I used to be able to add a link to video that could be  clicked on to 
play the clip.
 
Now one has to make a separate htm file containing the video  clip that is 
linked to from an anchor in the main text. The video plays the  video when 
the anchor in the main text is clicked on. 
 
A straight forward anchor link to a video file that uses  control is all 
that is needed.
