It's best to file independent things as separate bugs.

For your first comment, this is a CSS issue.  In particular, it seems like it
could potentially be a value for the 'resize' property, or something like that.

For your second comment, this is also a CSS issue.  This will be possible when
we agree on how to target the placeholder text for styling.

For your third comment, this is addressed by the work on a <dialog> element,
particular <dialog modal>.
