You could, and it might help, but this would be a first. I am not aware of HTML
treating any other part of text content as potentially making a document
invalid. If you think about it, you would actually be treating them as a kind
of pseudo-mark-up.

In any case, though, this does not address part 3 of my comment, which I think
is the most important one.
