Changes with Accessibility API Mapping Documents

Colleagues:

This email is provided to explain changes in ongoing work to normatively
specify the mapping of HTML elements and attributes to accessibility API
Roles, States and Properties on a variety of platforms. This has been, and
will continue to be joint work between the HTML-WG and the PF-WG in the
HTML-A11Y Task Force.

The HTML component of this work has been the document "HTML to Platform
Accessibility APIs Implementation Guide" [1]

This document is far from finished. Given the expansion of related efforts
following on the conclusion of ARIA 1.0 (and of HTML 5.0), it is proposed to
leave this older document as is, published as a note, with pointers to the new
work that supercedes it.

The specification which supercedes the above document is the "HTML
Accessibility API Mappings (HTML-AAM)" specification[2] due for a imminent FPWD
CfC. Unlike the older monolithic document, HTML-AAM will be modular,
incorporating shared ARIA components by reference, just as the parallel
project producing SVG Accessibility API Mappings[3] is doing.

The new approach was laid out in a posting on this list this past May
available at:

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-admin/2014May/0035.html

Questions and comments are welcome.
