Colleagues:
The Call for Consensus (CfC) in the HTML-A11Y Task Force, included below
in its entirety, has received several supporting responses, and one
partial objection, an objection to Question 2b of the CfC.
. The CfC can be found in the archives at:

Question 2b in the CfC asked whether the Task Force should "Recommend that
work on [Sec. 4.7.1.1 of the HTML 5.0 specification] be terminated."
Commenter writes: "No. It should be updated, at least to include
longdesc in examples where the description in alt is long enough to be
annoying for regular use. Some other edits would be helpful too -
hopefully I will have time to propose them. However, they would be more
editorial in nature (whereas the use of longdesc introduces a new
feature)."
Accordingly, the Task Force confirms a consensus on Question 1 and agrees that
"Techniques for providing useful text alternatives"should be published as an
HTML-WG note.
The Task Force confirms its consensus on the appropriateness of the
listed edits to Sec. 4.7.1.1 to date (Questions 2a and 2c). Anyone who believes edits are
still required to Sec. 4.7.1.1, whether editorial or substantive, is
invited to file bugs according to standard HTML-WG practice.
