RE: addition of <main> to HTML 5.0

I really like it Steve...

The only thing, is in WCAG 1 we used the term “Until User Agents ...” a lot,
when we were doing WCAG 2 we worked very hard to avoid it.

I’m wondering about the “until user agents” line on the role=”main”... is it
possible that browsers, and AT will have it fixed by the time we go to Rec?
If so, maybe leave it off... it seems like a quick fix.

Cheers

Subject: Re: addition of <main> to HTML 5.0

Since there were no objections, I have added main to the HTML5 CR spec:
http://www.w3.org/html/wg/drafts/html/CR/grouping-content.html#the-main-elem
ent

associated commit:
https://github.com/w3c/html/commit/f52f9d833d67440caadb6ac01f9c1861c33130d5

in the above commit I also made some changes to the WAI-ARIA mappings to
match implementations, as I was modifying the mappings for main in the CR
draft.

the ARIA mapping details are detailed here (when changes were made to HTML
5.1):
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2013Mar/0000.html

please review at your leisure, any feedback welcome and appreciated.

Hi all,

as per plan 2014 [1] it would seem that the main element[2] is a
candidate for inclusion in 5.0 given that it is implemented in
publically available nightly builds of Firefox, Webkit and Chrome

I am not pushing for or see a great need for this to occur any time
soon, and think it makes sense to wait, but thought I would put the
topic on the chairs radar.
