HTML5 Image Description Extension (longdesc)
was published as a W3C Candidate Recommendation today:
  http://www.w3.org/TR/2014/CR-html-longdesc-20140812/

>From the Director's announcement:
[[
While the HTML WG has received notice of a pending formal objection, we
have not received any formal objection at this time. In light of the
number of supporting comments for advancing this specification to
Candidate Recommendation (CR), the Director is publishing a CR so that the
HTML Accessibility Task Force can continue the process of documenting
longdesc implementations. Any additional information received during the
CR period will be considered before a request for transition to Proposed
Recommendation.
]]

The HTML Accessibility Task Force expects to satisfy its implementation criteria by
26 August 2014.

Please, send feedback on the document to the Task Force mailing list
<public-html-a11y@w3.org>.

Thank you,

Philippe
