Hi all,

over recent weeks, I have been working for Google on trying to
identify the best way in which CEA608 captions can be translated to
WebVTT.

I've just started a wiki page for this at
http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/HTML/wiki/Media_608_WebVTT_Conversion and
would be very curious about feedback.

I am well aware that this is outside the task force's work for the
HTML specification, but it is still important to many of us, and this
is IMHO the right forum at the W3C to start discussions about this. It
may well be that this effort is later channeled into a WebVTT Working
Group, which is fine.
