That was intentional, though looking again I was missing several pieces for what I intended. What I ultimately had in mind was chaining from an instance doc back to a combined profile, from there back to the modified top-level xmdp profile (to which was added a ref to grokXMDP), which would transform that joint profile to indicate the necessary transformations...which I now realise were nowhere to be found. 

Sorry Dan, I'll try looking at this before midnight next time :-)
